Ultrasound Day!

Today was a wonderful day. We had our ultrasound with the perinatologist, and he said that everything looked great!! He took a good close look at the diaphragm first, and everything was right where it was supposed to be. I think I finally relaxed for the first time in quite a while. The only thing he couldn't get a perfect view of was the very top of the heart. Everything he saw looked perfect so he said that there was nothing to worry about, but due to baby's position he couldn't quite get a perfect view of the top. He said that if we wanted to come back in a few weeks and take another look that would be fine - or we could wait until the next ultrasound in about 3 months to check on the position of the baby/placenta, etc. We opted for the 3-week visit! Why turn down an extra ultrasound, right? 

One other minor detail popped up; apparently my placenta is a little low-lying at the moment (down close to the cervix instead of on the side towards the top of the uterus). But this is still really early in the pregnancy. Most of the time, this issue will resolve itself long before delivery time. When it gets closer to go time, they'll check the placenta location again & take it from there. But again - he said nothing to worry about.

Second doctor's appointment and more belly pics!

First of all..... yes I know I have been lacking in blog posts for too long. I didn't have much too say for awhile since nothing was really changing, then I got busy with the end of the semester & holiday time... and the updating of the blog just kind of got away from me. But I'm going to try to be much better about it from here on out!

Anyway, I took this picture the day before Josh & I left to drive to California for Christmas (12/21)

Definitely starting to show, but not too much. What really surprised me though, is how much I changed just over the course of the next couple of weeks. For the last two weeks, it seems like I have gotten a bit bigger every day! Here's today's picture:

It looks to me like a huge change for just under 2 1/2 weeks!

Today was also my second doctor's appointment. This one was with the actual OB doctor, not the nurse practitioner, and was a pretty short visit. The best part was getting to hear the heartbeat! What a wonderful sound =)  The doctor estimated the heartbeat at 145-150 beats per minute, right where it should be. My blood pressure is nice & low like normal. I gained 6 pounds since the last appointment (11/17), and the doctor said that I should be careful, since that weight gain is "just a little bit brisk." harumph. Considering this 7 week span included Thanksgiving and Christmas, I didn't think the weight gain was that bad...  So what did Josh & I have for dinner tonight? Pizza. ha!

The next step now is the ultrasound, which is this coming Tuesday the 11th. Hopefully we will get to find out if it's a boy or a girl! =)
